Victorian garnet set gold ring
Large cabochon cut oval garnet set in an ornate yellow gold mount, circa 1880. The gemstone displayed is a pyrope garnet with an attractive, deep claret colour. The engraving on the gold mount features a scroll and leaf design, typical of the era. It is rare to find cabochon garnets this size in such fine condition. Pyrope garnets were mined in very large quantities in 19th century Bohemia and are still very much "en vogue" today. Garnet is the January birthstone.

Bloodstone set signet ring
Signet ring mounted in 18ct yellow gold set with a rectangular bloodstone with a plain surface for seal engraving (family crest or monogram). Bloodstone is green jasper dotted with bright red spots of iron oxide. According to the legend about the origin of bloodstone, it was first formed when drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. Medieval Christians often used bloodstone to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs, for which reason it was also dubbed the martyr's stone.
